Ludwig A. Minelli, LLM Biography

Founder of Dignitas
Pro to the question "Should Euthanasia or Physician-Assisted Suicide Be Legal?"

“We should not start from the premise that suicide should not happen… Suicide is a marvellous possibility given to men to withdraw from an unbearable and inevitable situation… But we should acknowledge that somebody who feels like [commiting suicide] has rarely the capacity to judge his situation objectively. Therefore, we should ask for two conditions. First: You do not leave for a long journey without having consulted the Travel Agency. Second: You do not leave for a long journey without having said Good bye to your friends and your relatives.”

Interview in “A Date with Death,” Times of London, Apr. 16, 2006

“I am pro the right of every human being to end one’s own life without risks and without pains, and without any other precondition than having capacity of discernment in this respect, and I am persuaded that in those cases assisted suicide is much better and safer (less risk of misuse) than ‘euthanasia’ in the meaning that one person will have to kill another person on demand.”
